FUTRA: Op Art

On Saturday, August 13, FUTRA reveals OP ART, a one-day multimedia event presenting work from 30 visual artists, performers, and musicians at Civic Center Studios, a beautiful 8,000 sq. ft. studio with views overlooking DTLA.

Optical Art plays with the perception of our physical reality, delving into illusions that seep out of hypnotic geometries, immersive experiences, and confounding alterations of space and time. It disrupts the dialogue between the mind and body, while exposing the hyper-reality of our veiled digital age.

DJs Aaron Davis, Knyphy, Warren Nelson, and Zøraya provide a kinetic soundscape to complement a curated exhibition of contemporary artists and visionaries showcasing: mixed media, sculpture, painting, photography, graphic arts, fashion, and installation. Akiko Yamashita, Alex Pelly, astral_projektor, Immanent, Kate Parsons, and Todd Moyer present their video, animation, and projection mapping installations. BioGlitz brings an interactive glitter painting reality. The performance In/Between/Time by mtDNA Dance will take place at 9:30pm followed by Future Choir of Future Eyes at 10pm. The Future Choir musical experiment reinterprets the experience of looking through a crystal into sound. Each facet represents a voice/instrument - exploring time signatures and layering techniques to create sonic landscapes resembling the prismatic architecture of a crystal.

Entry for this multimedia event is $5 at the door from 7pm – 9pm and $10 after. The event is 21+ with a full cash bar. OP ART FASHION is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED.

Futra is a multimedia experience brand that makes the connection between genres, art, and design. Founded in 2011, Futra invites artists of all walks of life; visual arts, experimental, video, performance - in addition to musicians - to find harmony with one another. Together we create engaging and unique experiences throughout Los Angeles.
